I would not tell a woman what to do if she is facing a pregnancy. If a woman came to me for advice, I would tell her to talk things over with the father if possible, and with family members and other loved ones, with her doctor, and perhaps with a counselor. But I would not say, “do this” or “do that.” Now that the U.S. Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade, the laws governing abortion will be decided state-by-state. I hope state governments will create and consult with a board of physicians on how to write the laws. Governors and legislators are lawmakers, not doctors. (I thought conservatives didn’t trust the government, but they are anxious for the government to regulate abortion.) It would be best if decisions like this were made privately, between the woman and physician. I don’t believe the government belongs in the consulting room with the patient and doctor.
